Women and HIV Movement
Known for gender equality work, Sane Seven was commissioned to create the photography and video for Gilead Sciences campaign to address a serious gap in the UK’s HIV response: women are still too often left out of awareness, testing, prevention, care and policy conversations.
The work had to handle visibility carefully: showing strength without gloss, vulnerability without pity, and lived experience without reducing anyone to a diagnosis. The concept of the campaign was to replace ‘I’ in HIV with bold portraits of eight real women to put them in the centre of the conversation.
It has been used across public awareness, advocacy, events, social and campaign communications, including activity linked to UK Parliament and major HIV conferences.
Women & HIV campaign has received a Bronze award at the PM Society Awards 2026 in the Disease Awareness: Public and Patients category.
“Your sensitive, thoughtful, and powerful photography played a vital role in this success, helping to bring the women’s stories to life in an authentic and respectful way, and creating a campaign that truly connected with its audience.” – Holly, Associate Director
